It’s been about five years since the last Mario Party game, but Mario and friends are up for the party at least one more time! In Mario Party 9, Bowser steals all the Mini Stars from the sky. As this occurs, Mario and company just happen to be enjoying the beautiful night sky with a telescope, so you can imagine Mario’s reaction; recover the stars and put Bowser in his place, once again.

Mario Party 9 is not your regular Mario Party game and plays much differently from the rest of the series. The major overhaul here is that Nintendo chooses to put every character in a party vehicle and have them navigate the boards together, more on this later. The main objective of each board is to collect the highest number of Mini Stars. These are collected as you pass them on the board, or lost if you pass the dreaded Mini Ztars. In Solo Mode (basically the game’s story mode), it is important to make sure you collect more Mini Stars than Bowser’s minion (usually Shy Guy or Magikoopa), otherwise you will fail the board; in party mode, you will just have to battle your friends to become the Super Star! There are a total of seven boards to play, which is right in line with the series. OK, that’s some basic info, but you may be wondering, how does this vehicle thing work?
